Not just another brown bag!

I usually post a recipe on Tuesdays but this past week I didn't make anything worth writing about so I figured that I'd switch it up. Not all that fun or glamorous but necessary....

In preparation for grad school to start, I made a very grown up purchase(<-insert sarcasm).  I figured since I'll be at school from 8-5 nearly every day, I'll need to pack a lunch. And I'll also be riding the train to and from, so I might need to fit some dinner in there too.

But it can't just be a brown paper bag. I plan on bringing healthy stuff like salads and possibly a lot of it. And plenty of things that need to keep cold.

Like a good student, I did my research and found the perfect lunch bag.
TA-DA!!!

I got this bag on Etsy(if you haven't heard of it, go on now!) from Sister Embroidery Shop. They sell a bunch of different stuff that they embroidery for you like adorable diaper bags, backpacks, lunch bags, and the super cute hooded towels.

Now this bag is BIG! And I wanted it big to fit a bunch of stuff. It could easily double as a book tote. Fully insulated and even has a mesh pocket for my cold packs! I picked the Damask print so I wouldn't get tired of it years down the road, like I would if I got polka dots or something.

And it's hard to see in this picture(bad lighting/iPhone) but I had them put my initial on it in turquoise. That way everyone knows who's it is :)

Just under 2 weeks left of my last summer break!! Where has the time gone?!

Weekend Recap!

This past weekend was nice and relaxing. I'm trying to enjoy as many of them as I can before school starts and then my weekends will consist of studying a bunch and trying to keep my sanity.

On a hunt at night for the perfect dessert my boyfriend and I decided to stop by one of our favorite restaurants Lazy Dog Cafe.  It happened to be happy hour so we decided to get some drinks at the bar.
The boyfriend got some pizza and we shared a dessert which of course I forgot to take a picture of! I was working on my 2nd pink lemonade drop martini...oops! It was chocolaty and peanut buttery though! It was pretty fun people watching and talking to others at the bar who were also people watching.

Saturday I did some shopping with mom, we didn't get anything exciting enough to report though. After that I waited for my man to get back from work so we could do "Cheeseburger Saturday."

Yup, you read right Cheeseburger Saturday! I eat pretty well during the week but during the weekend I need at least one greasy meal complete with french fries. So we went to In 'N Out. It did not disappoint.

Then on Sunday I putz around the house for most of the day and made some cookies. Bethenny Frankel's Oatmeal Banana Chocolate Chip cookies. I've made them a few times and they are just sooooo good! Also, healthy and filling! I also have come to the conclusion that all the cookies I make look like turds when photographed but they taste delicious! These are a must try!
Did you do anything fun this past weekend? Was it a relaxing weekend or super busy?

Recent Purchases: Back to school edition

When I was an undergrad my daily wardrobe consisted of a plain t-shirt, jeans, and sweatshirt. And it was okay to wear similar things two days in a row because I had different classes and different classmates. So no one but me, and maybe my roommates would notice.

Sad but true. I had no sense of style back then. Even if it was only a year ago.

I'm determined to make Grad school different. I'll be with the same group of people all day, everyday so that silly trend in undergrad just won't fly. I don't want to be super dressed up at school either. So what's a girl to do?

Go Back-to-school shopping ofcourse! H&M and Forever21 proved to be successful places.

I definitely scored at H&M this weekend with 3 tops!

I found this knit top at Forever 21. I'll wear a tank top underneath it.

I'll need at least another pair of jeans then I'll be good to go. Oh, and books too...

Sunday Funday!

Happy Sunday! The weather is beautiful here in Southern California! I'll be enjoying a cup of coffee, watching the world cup finals USA vs Japan, and doing a little back to school shopping.

But relaxing somewhere by the beach with a hammock sounds lovely.
Ahhhh relaxing Sundays are always fun! :)

Pottery Barn Victory!

When in San Luis Obispo(more on our trip here), mom and I stopped in at Pottery Barn.I've really like their collection of nautical inspired pieces and love their pillows. I mean love! Turns out they were having a sale and most Nautical inspired things! **happy dance**

The second I saw this pillow I snatched it up! The pillow cover was down from $40 to $30. Not a huge jump but I've stalked it online for a while. So I bought it and used an old square pillow that I haven't really liked for a while and it fit perfectly!
The color looks a little off in the picture but the bed is slowly coming together.
Now my bed as a bit more of a nautical feel and I love my frilly, ruffle pillows but I couldn't really justify another one. And it goes pretty well with my accent wall color. I think I need to find another pillow or two. Also I want to get a picture or painting above the bed.  Any suggestions?

Recent Purchases

This weekend I had some success when it came to shopping. I didn't mean for it to be a "shopping weekend" but ya know sometimes it just turns out that way.

One of my shopping to-do's is to get some new plain t-shirts. I've worn the same plain shirts for over 3 years(I know it's sad). Finally I admitted to myself it is time to phase them out and replace them. Thank goodness for Target! They came to my rescue once again! I only bought 3 shirts but will most likely go back and get more later.
Yup, super plain but they work and fit well!
Next at Target I decided to invest in some dry-shampoo. I've heard from many that it works wonders. Normally I just use baby powder but my powder smells kind of funny so I said what the heck and bought some. I've used it once and so far so good. Plus it smells better than the baby powder! Yay!
Next on a trip to South Coast Plaza to pick up some of mom's St. John knits she had altered. I had to go into Zara because they were having a massive sale! And I snatched up this shirt for $20. I really like the coral color and that the lines aren't perfectly straight.
**Update: I will need to exchange it for a smaller size as
it is a tad bit too big around the arm holes**

Although it's not mine, I'm counting one last purchase as a victory in my book. My mom has been in desperate need of new shorts. She's at her goal weight from being on Weight Watchers but she was still wearing her shorts from before she lost the weight. We walked into Gap to browse and she tried on some shorts that weren't quite right then I pulled out a pair of shorts that she hadn't tried yet. She gave me a weird look and didn't want to try them but I insisted she at least try them. And they fit perfectly!! She was so shocked and I was(and still am) so excited for her, and me for picking them! She bought 3 pairs haha.

So moms out there, sometimes it pays to listen to your daughters!

Next purchases I'm thinking of getting are a pair of Toms shoes and maybe a casual blazer.
