Friday's Fancies: 1st day of School

This Friday's Fancies is totally perfect for me this week! The theme is "Back to School Best" and as many of you know, I also went back to school yesterday! If I had the wardrobe that Polyvore does then this is what I would probably wear...
too cool for school

I wanted to go for something casual but put together. Nothing really over the top. I paired neutrals with my fav color for some fun. And instead of a backpack which I will undoubtedly end up using eventually, I put in a giant tote for notebooks and such.

I'm thinking I need to invest in some Sperry's. They are pretty cool! And I really want those Oakley's. That pair is actually the only kind of aviator that looks good on my face. All but those that I've tried on make me look sad because they come down too far. They are definitely on my Christmas list and the bf is well aware.

For my first day of school I wish I could wear something like this but unfortunately my go-to jeans(all 3 of them) wear being hemmed. It's about time though and it got up to 86 on campus so maybe it's best I couldn't wear them.

I took a picture of what I wore the first day of school but I haven't mastered taking pictures of myself in a mirror so they didn't turn out well. And 6am isn't my finest hour when it comes to handling technology. I'll update everyone soon about how orientation went!

All about my girl G!

Today is a big day for me! I have my first day of Orientation for Physical Therapy school AND I'm guest posting for Hollie over at hollie takes notes while she's in Hawaii. Hey Hollie, want to trade?!

I'm talking about one of my favorite stylish celeb who doesn't get as much style cred as she deserves!

GIULIANA!
Check out Hollie's page for more and leave me some love! :)

I'll fill you all in on how my day goes on soon!! Thank you to everyone who wished me luck yesterday! I really appreciate it!! :)

pins and giggles

Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope everyone's week is going by fast but I wish mine would go slower...Today is my last official day of summer! :( I have my first day of grad school orientation tomorrow. Although I'm super excited to start and meet my new classmates I'm still superrrrr nervous!!

So my last day of summer will be spent working out and then relaxing by the pool. Then at night I'll be frantically scrambling around like a nervous wreck trying to get my shizzzz together. Where the heck did my year off go?!

Now onto the good stuff! Oh so Pinteresting Wednesday is here again! I pinned some funny ones for you so I hope you enjoy. Again, it's a random collection of stuff. Maybe someday I'll have a theme besides "random."

Carmelized Peach Salad

I saw a picture of a new salad that California Pizza Kitchen had on their menu that looked tasty and pretty easy, so I figured I'd give it a try. Mine is a little different than theirs, I only looked at the picture, not the online description. But it served as a good inspiration!
CPK's Caramelized Peach Salad
The only thing that needs to be cooked are the peaches so I decided to grill them.
4 ripe peaches
1 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup brown sugar

Preheat grill to medium high heat. Cut peaches in half and remove the pit. Cut the halves in half and toss in a bowl with extract and brown sugar. Let sit for 15 minutes while grill heats up. Place them skin side down for about 3 minutes until the skin is slightly charred. Then turn the peaches and grill about 1 minute on the remaining sides until you get grill marks. Let them cool a few minutes before tossing them in the salad.

For the rest of the salad I used a head of romaine, chopped toasted walnuts, feta cheese, carrots, and cucumbers. When I added the peaches I also threw in a little champagne vinaigrette.
It was a big hit!! The caramelized peaches added some sweetness but it wasn't overly sweet. It was definitely an easy way to spruce up a salad.

Weekend Update

I realized on Sunday that it would be that last Sunday that was NOT a school night! It kind of bummed me out for a little but besides that I had a great weekend!

The boyfriend was at a Fitness convention in LA for 4 days, IdeaWorld Conference. And he won the "Boyfriend of the Year" award because he got APOLO OHNO'S AUTOGRAPH for me!!!!! That man of mine bought me Apolo's book and had him sign it for me! I'm soooo excited! I'm not one of those crazy Olympian fans but I love Apolo! Can't wait to read his book!
Yup he signed it!!
Apolo and boyfriend
He was pretty tired after the conference...lol
Saturday was eventful! I went on my first ever blate (blog date) with Meg from henning love. It was so great to officially meet her and get to know her more. We met up at Gabbi's Mexican Kitchen in Old Town Orange. If you love Mexican food, then you will LOVE this place!! Yum! I'm so glad Meg suggested it because I will definitely be back.

After lunch and chatting a bunch we browsed some of Old Town's shopping. If you're an antique lover then you'll really enjoy the shops. I'm not quite there yet and don't appreciate antiques as much as I know I will later but they had some cool stuff!
If you have an opportunity to meet a blogging bestie, definitely take it! It was funny because even though we didn't really know each other we still had a lot to talk about since we knew things from blogging. I really enjoyed our blate and hope school isn't too crazy so we can meet up again.

Then Sunday was mainly spent clearing out my wardrobe and getting rid of clothes I don't wear, don't fit, and don't remember when I wore last. I was amazed at how much I got rid of and how much room I have now of clothes I actually like! I'm hoping this will help me get out of the "I have nothing to wear" funk. If you're going through this too I recommend reading What I Wore.

2 huge trash bags full of cloths and a bag of shoes(don't worry they were cheap
Sunday night I went with the boyfriend to his work banquet. It was nice to put names with faces and meet his work friends. He even received a "most outstanding" award voted by his peers. I'm very proud of him!
I'm starting to get pretty nervous for school! Thursday and Friday I have orientation with my new classmates so it's getting close!!  Eeeeek!

Did you have a good weekend? Anything fun?!
Have you every met a blogger friend in person?

Friday's Fancies: Seeing Red

It's finally Friday again! I hope everyone's week went well and that you're excited for another Friday's Fancies with {av} from {long distance loving}. This week's theme is all about RED. I really do love this color so this week's theme was easy for me. I wanted to push my proverbial 'envelope' but once I saw this dress I couldn't not use it. Maybe next week I'll go out of my comfort zone again...

seeing red

Does anyone else think of Pippa Middleton's dress from her sis's wedding when looking at this red number?

Every girl should have a LBD but for me a LRD(little red dress) is my go-to dress. Maybe it's my blonde hair and skin tone but a bright red just works for me. And since the theme is red, I of course had to use Loubs for shoes with the signature red bottoms.

A pretty red outfit just aches to be paired with gold jewelry/accessories. I use a lot of gold when on Polyvore but in real life I wear more silver. Once I get a nice gold watch then I think that will change, since I only have a silver one right now.

I'm pretty excited for this weekend because I'm going on my first ever blate(blog date)!! Meg from henning love and I are going to meet for lunch and maybe some shopping? I couldn't be more excited to officially 'meet' her! Tune in Monday for pictures!

Doing anything fun this weekend?

shutters

I've noticed that in my posts about home decor, I gravitate towards pieces that can be recycled and aren't quite what you'd expect to see in certain places of a house. But with the right color and placement they work.

Same goes with window shutters. They aren't just for keeping the sun out anymore!

I love a good plantation shutter but I'm not sure I'd buy some for the sole purpose of decorating anything besides a window. I'm assuming these babies can probably get expensive. But if I find some laying around the neighborhood, dumpster, or a friend is getting rid of her's then I'm going to snatch them up sooooo quickly. Like BAM mine!

My favorite is the headboard for sure. Maybe I should get a headboard since I love them so much?

What do you think? Like the shutters? Or think they just belong on windows?
