Look up!

Today I'm posting about something that isn't really talked about often, that I've noticed when it comes to home design and that's the ceiling. A well done ceiling can make a room. Here are some great ones!

I know when I have my own home I want high ceilings because it makes the place look for gracious and less cramped.

What's your take on ceilings?

Utilize Your Utensils!

Today I wanted to write a post about something that most of us don't really think about much....

Silverware!

They are pretty necessary. There are good ones, nice ones, crappy ones, cheap ones, plain old boring ones, and plastic ones. All we normally do with them is put stuff in our mouths with them. Glamorous right?

But what else can you do with them to give them some more life?

Make them into an easel or picture holder.

Jewelry tree!

Cool card holders!

Chandeliers!

Mirror decorations!

Even cheap cabinet handles which is genius and economical if you already have some!

Decorations?

Just polish 'em up or paint them and get creating! So if any of you are dying for a new set of silverware but can't justify throwing your old ones out, then hear is your way around it.

Has anyone done anything like this? I'd be really interested in seeing how it turned out!

Happy Pinning!

It's finally Wednesday!! I think I'm really going to like Wednesdays for the next few weeks because I get to SLEEP IN til 7:30!!! Wooohooo! It's funny how 1 week of grad school can make 7:30 "sleeping in." Only one 4 hour lecture today!! :-)

So because it's Wednesday it's ofcourse Oh so Pinteresting Wednesday and the first 2 pins is very near and dear to my heart so I hope you enjoy. It's especially special (lol?) now because I can't make it through my 7:30 am classes without none other than COFFEE!!! FYI, I used to be a Garfield and Get Fuzzy addict back in high school.

shutters

I've noticed that in my posts about home decor, I gravitate towards pieces that can be recycled and aren't quite what you'd expect to see in certain places of a house. But with the right color and placement they work.

Same goes with window shutters. They aren't just for keeping the sun out anymore!

I love a good plantation shutter but I'm not sure I'd buy some for the sole purpose of decorating anything besides a window. I'm assuming these babies can probably get expensive. But if I find some laying around the neighborhood, dumpster, or a friend is getting rid of her's then I'm going to snatch them up sooooo quickly. Like BAM mine!

My favorite is the headboard for sure. Maybe I should get a headboard since I love them so much?

What do you think? Like the shutters? Or think they just belong on windows?

Pallet Pleaser

Ever wonder what else to do with those wooden pallets besides using them for firewood at a bonfire? Here are some cool ideas on how to recycle pallets and use them as cheap alternatives in your home.

Just sand it down and repaint or stain. Add another couple wooden planks to fill in some gaps if needed. And TA-DA!!

My favorites are the headboard and outdoor table. Anyone else have other fun ideas to save pallets?

Interior Barn Doors

When I see sliding interior barn doors it reminds me of my old apartment in San Luis Obispo when I was in college. It brings back good memories :-)

My apartment complex consisted of three level apartments in which the top level was a lofted room. That room was mine complete with ladder and sliding door. And no I never fell off, almost did a few nights though ;-) It was pretty much like the tree-house I always wished I had.

Barn doors inside add something unexpected and are way more interesting that the traditional door with hinges. I'm a sucker for the rustic look of natural wood. But adding a bright color door can liven up a room and make it look more modern.
My Favorite :)

Anyone else love sliding barn doors?
